Background:
I am one of the few attorneys in this country who can honestly say, "I love what I do for a living!"  For me, estate planning is more than an area of expertise in the law; it is counseling clients on issues that weigh heavily on them, helping them find creative solutions; giving them peace of mind, and helping them to leave a loving legacy for their families.  I was inspired to pursue this area of law by my grandparents, who often expressed that older people need someone they can trust to help them with their finances, nursing home issues, their wills and trusts...their need, and my desire to truly help others in a meaningful way, led to me this area of the practice of law.

I earned my Bachelor's degree in Political Science from Montana State University, graduating with honors.  I was blessed to have married the love of my life, Charles "Chuck" DenHerder, and in 1989 we moved to San Diego to enjoy the beautiful climate.  I attended law school at California Western School of Law, graduating in December 1991.

After serving as an intern for the City Attorney's office and for a firm who practiced estate litigation (basically contesting and defending wills and trusts), I opened my own firm, DenHerder & Associates, in 1992, with Chuck as office manager and the person who believed in me most.  The practice grew quite rapidly based solely on the referrals of existing clients and trusted financial advisors with whom I work in the community.

As the office was growing, so was my family.  In 1994, my husband and I were blessed with our first son, Cory; and in 1998, our second son, Carsten.  With the birth of these two awesome boys, I quickly recognized that if something, God forbid, happened to Chuck and I, it was not only important to choose who we would want to raise our kids...but it was crucial to give them a guide on how we would have raised them if we were here to have had the privilege to do so...we wanted our estate plan to reflect our ethics and morals - so our boys would have a sense of who we were; we wanted it to project our work ethic and what we would expect of them as the grew; we wanted them to know how much hard work would get them; and most of all, how much we love them...all of this revolutionized the way our law firm practices law...we became counselors to help our clients put their life into their estate plan.

My passion lies in counseling and educating families on the options available to them, and ways they can, through generous giving, enjoy a prosperous life and leave a lasting legacy.  To that end, I, along with the other talented attorneys in the firm, have hosted several radio programs to educate the public.  You can download the broadcasts by going to our "Events and Resources" page on the website.  In addition, I speak regularly for corporations, private groups, and non-profit groups to educate them on wills, trusts, and creative estate planning techniques.

"Honoring God, serving my family, and serving the needs of my clients give me a life that is full and blessed!"
