Background:
I am fortunate to have found a law firm where attorneys and staff really do care about their clients! Having had a long career in the healthcare industry, it seems a natural progression for me to provide trust and estate services in such an empathetic and caring environment. When faced with the unknown, it is often difficult for people to express their feelings and desires. My job is to assist my clients in communicating their thoughts and provide answers to questions, even those they have difficulty formulating.

I am a native Californian (born in Long Beach) and with the exception of 3 years of farm-life on a Wisconsin farm from 4th through 6th grade, I have lived here all my life.

Following a successful business and practice management career, I returned to the world of academia. I didn’t have the chance to complete my education in my early years and when the opportunity arose, I grabbed it, completing my bachelor’s degree, graduating law school and taking the California Bar exam while continuing to work.

Initially my legal practice consisted of business and employment law and civil litigation. My experience as an employer for so many years provided the insight needed to connect with my clients when representing them. In July of 2002, my husband sold his dental practice in Oceanside, California and we began to reconnect with our family. We started buying quads and motorcycles and were taking frequent weekend trips to the desert to enjoy riding with our grandchildren. I remember on one particular ride we’d stopped to look at the scenery. My husband looked into my eyes and said he felt so good about being there, he never thought we’d ever have so much fun again. It was the happiest I’d seen him in years. Before I knew it, we’d bought a 38 foot fifth-wheel toy-hauler, modified our Dodge truck to tow everything and were having the time of our lives! Everything we’d worked so hard for was coming true.

In May of 2003, while camping in Kern County with our family, I was called home due to the unexpected illness of my Mother who was visiting from Arizona. I rented a car and returned to be with her, staying through the night while she was in intensive care. The next morning, having been unable to reach my husband by phone, my best friend had to tell me that my beloved husband had died in his sleep. Later that night under completely unrelated circumstances, my Mother passed away. I was in my forties and suddenly, with no warning, found myself a widow and an orphan in one fell swoop.

I am living proof that the unexpected – happens. There is often no warning. There are no signs. We truly have to make each day count. When the unexpected happens, it’s important to let others help you. Let others into your life so that you can find your way again. I find comfort in helping others find their way when grief takes over their life. People who endured the unbearable were there for me and continue to be part of my support system. I have been practicing in the field of estate planning, trust administration and probate for the past four years. It’s my turn to pay it forward, personally and professionally.

When probate and trust administration issues arise, most people can barely face the day, much less the related legalities. Having gone through this myself, I am eager to help my clients see that there is light at the end of the tunnel. I am so excited to be part of DenHerder & Associates and the opportunity to utilize my skills and experience to help clients plan for and get through the aftermath and realities of loss. And someday, they’ll be there for someone too.
