Background: I grew up in Montana with 2 sisters and 6 (very tall) brothers. So “advocating” and “planning” has always been a part of my life. I started out working in the securities industry and later business law, but I wanted to do something that touched others in a more personal way. Estate planning is the perfect blend. I can make use of my business background, while helping my clients form a thoughtful plan to take care of their families, their loved ones and their businesses.
I started working in the securities industry when I was 18 and worked my way up to management positions, while also attending college. I earned a B.S. degree in Financial Services from San Diego State University. Along the way I also obtained several securities licenses and learned about almost every type of investment from stocks and bonds to real estate and oil and gas tax shelters. My securities work involved so many legal issues, that it was a natural step to go to law school. In 1991 I earned my Juris Doctor degree, magna cum laude, from University of San Diego, School of Law. As a trial attorney for 10 years, I worked on many fascinating business litigation cases and have first hand knowledge of what can go wrong if things aren’t spelled out completely. Now that I am working as an estate planner, I am committed to putting my knowledge and expertise to work on the planning side.
I have been a Judge Pro Tem for San Diego Small Claims Court and a member of the San Diego County Bar Association Subcommittee on Literacy. I have also tried conservatorship cases for the County of San Diego, Office of Conservator to help those with mental illnesses. My strongest passion is working with children. I have volunteered with San Diego Volunteer Lawyers Program to prepare guardianship applications for children and to obtain citizenship status for minor children who are wards of the court. I especially like to work with the parents of special needs children, to help them plan for their futures. On the weekends, you’ll probably find me coaching a soccer team for special needs children. My husband and I now call San Diego “home” and, with our 13 year old son, love taking advantage of all the great outdoor activities available in San Diego.
